Air sealing is a critical part of the building process. Sealing air leaks can dramatically decrease energy bills and increase indoor air quality.
Although spray foam insulation can be used specifically for air sealing there are many air sealing products to seal key penetration points in a home around recessed (can) lights, plumbing stacks, electrical wires, attic hatches or doors, around chimneys or flues and around duct chases.
For jobs where foam insulation isn’t appropriate or requested, can foam is installed to minimize air leaks. Fire foam is installed in key construction areas where fire resistance is necessary.
Air sealing with can foam before installing fiberglass can dramatically increase energy efficiency. Air sealing with can foam requires high attention to detail and is best performed by a qualified contractor.
